Tip # 57 – Free Angler Resources Online

We’re lucky to have the internet!!  Fishers across the planet have access to a large amount of free resources related to maps, lake depth charts, fish stocking lists and a whole lot more.  There is a number of valuable, free fishing and outdoors websites out there that I tend to take advantage of when planning a fishing trip, or even when I’m stuck at home wishing I was out fishing.

  • Anglers Atlas - This website is dedicated to bringing in depth information about lakes, rivers and more.  You’ll find tons of maps for various lakes in North America, including depth charts, access points and species related information to help in planning your fishing trips.
  • Google Earth – Most people know about this application, but many don’t realize its benefits for fishing and outdoors related activites.  Using satellite imagery, you can zoom right in on many areas, making this piece of software an excellent tool when scoping out new fishing areas, access points and more.
  • YouTube – Yet another great resource for anglers.  On YouTube, you’ll find everything from fishing tutorials and fishing tips to reviews on fishing products as well as lodges and other fishing destinations.
  • Fly Fishing – Dedicated to Fly Fishing in Ontario, this website also provides a large amount of detailed information about fly fishing in general.  Techniques, gear, destinations and more are covered here.
  • Ice Fishing – Focused on areas in Ontario that are great for ice fishing, Ice Fish Ontario also has a good amount of general ice fishing tips and information to get you started.
  • MNR – The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources website.  A must visit if you are planning on fishing in Ontario.
