Tip # 41 – Bring Lots Of Bait Fishing

Running Out Of Bait Could Easily Ruin Your Fishing Trip

It can really put a damper in your fishing trip if you run out of the bait that’s working that day. When it comes to bait you can never have enough. This means a large variety as well as an ample amount. If you are using spawn bring a variety of different colours and sizes of spawn sacs, some days the fish will only seem to be hitting on a certain colour. Whether you’re fly fishing, float fishing, spin fishing or whatever method you should always be equipped to try as many baits or lures as it takes to get the fish to hit. If you are out fly fishing, keep a fly box with all kinds of nymph, emerger, streamer, and dry fly patterns. Do the same with your lures, for your spinning rod. Have different colours and sizes of spinners, spoons, jigs, crank baits or whatever you like to use. Always realize that conditions will change from trip to trip so the fish may not take what was working last time.

  1. I certainly agree with not running out of the bait that’s working. I have had great days on the water where the action stopped completely after losing a particular bait. So I understand and try to carry a really good supply.

I have stopped trying to catch fish when that happens and headed to the nearest place to buy more.

One weekend we drove 30km both ways to get the fly that I was having such good luck with fly fishing for Atlantic salmon.
