Tip # 31 – How To Tie A Double Surgeon Knot

Fishing knots are an important thing for all fishermen to learn.  Whether it be knots that are used to attach monofilament fishing line to reels, or knots that attach hooks to your line, these can make or break landing the big one.  A great knot to learn, especially if you are a fly fisher, is the double surgeon knot.  The double surgeon knot is used to join one section of line to another.  The knot works with lines of varying diameter, but the greater the difference in size of the two lines, the less chance there is of the knot holding.

The main application of a double surgeon knot is the ability to quickly attach new lengths of tippet to the end your leader.  Tippet is used to further taper down a leader, allowing you to change diameter and strength of your line in order to work with conditions as they arise.

Mike from Bingo Bango Fly Fishing shows us how to tie this easy fishing knot.
