Tip # 11 – Attract Bass With Frantic Bass!
Ever notice how if you are out on the water…..river or lake……bass fishing, and you hook into a nice largemouth or smallmouth bass, you are almost guaranteed at least one more, if not more than one more fish? Bass are a schooling fish….to some degree anyways. You won’t find schools of bass like you do salmon or trout while trolling on lakes, but you will find bass in schools of five or ten. Bass tend to hang out together for one reason and one reason alone…..FOOD! Thats right, bass are a little smarter than we think they are. They’ll school up in an area that they know holds food such as baitfish, tadpoles or maybe crayfish as well. Once you’ve found them, the action can be pretty good!
However, when things are slow, and hook ups are few and far between, I can offer a little bit of advice that just might pay off on a really really slow day.
So…you are out on the lake drifting around in the wind, casting and trolling as you see fit. Finally, a hit and the fight is on. Hopefully you have a partner in the boat with you, and this is the time to drop anchor. Yes, you’ve found the fish. Now, continue to play that fish, and have your partner cast out a lure similar to the pattern you have on. Have him cast towards the fish you are fighting. Many times, when bass are moving about frantically, their friends come along to see what the commotion is. If the fishing is really slow, this is one way that you can get a few more fish in the boat and have a little excitement for a short time.
Once the action dies down a little…..repeat the process by trying to find the next location holding fish!
Tight Lines!
